Daniel S. Pickett

Port Manager | Cainiao

Daniel S. Pickett, an accomplished logistician and first responder, gravitated toward the logistics field at 18, right after high school. As he embarked on the journey, he discovered a natural talent and genuine passion for the industry, where he has continued to thrive more than a decade later. In 2014, he found success as an operations manager at FedEx Ground for six years and subsequently served as the P&D Manager at Fond du Lac Cold Storage Inc. and an operations supervisor at DHL eCommerce between 2020 and 2023.

Since 2023, Mr. Pickett has excelled as the port manager at Cainiao, a global leader in e-commerce logistics. In this capacity, he reviews port activity across the United States, checks incoming and outgoing shipments at various ports to ensure smooth operations, monitors current events and stock market trends to help make informed decisions, and plans to help reduce potential disruptions in the supply chain. He considers his most notable achievement in this role to be his current successful navigation of tariff challenges by focusing on predicting trends rather than merely reacting to them. He opts for taking a proactive approach to anticipate changes, understanding the nuances of his field, engaging with the stock market, and considering external factors beyond their immediate environment. He emphasizes the importance of collaboration and communication, often participating in discussions with the COO and CEO to strategize for potential scenarios.

In addition to his career in logistics, Mr. Pickett has long been involved in the emergency medical field, serving as president of the Dunellen Rescue Squad Inc. in New Jersey since 2017. In this leadership position prior to, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, he accrued invaluable lessons on preparedness, reinforcing the idea that “being ready can make a significant difference in challenging times.” In 2023, he was recognized as Responder of the Year by the Emergency Medical Department.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Pickett aspires to take control of a region that is immediately available and ultimately run his own logistics company. He emphasizes the importance of networking, acknowledging that success in this field is dependent on collaboration and support from others. As he prepares for this venture, he’s focused on making a significant impact in the logistics industry. Mr. Pickett believes there are numerous aspects currently being done incorrectly, and he’s determined to implement simple yet effective changes that will enable quicker and more efficient delivery of services to meet people’s needs.
